The White Mare event was a camping event. Early shire records are incomplete, so this page is very much a work in progress. So far, here’s what we know.
The first White Mare event was held on 4 August 1979. It was called “White Mare Tourney,” and was also the site of the King’s and Queen’s Champions tourney. Their Majesties Setanta/Seanan I and Aidan I attended. At least one shire member (Taliesin of Nordovest) received an AoA that day. Kingdom records seem to indicate that Lord Emeric Wendel the Diversified became a champion that day.
The last White Mare event was in 1987, when it was renamed “Wedding War.” It featured a war scenario to celebrate the marriage of our fourth and former seneschal, Lady Aurora Ilfetafeưer Steorrawuda, to the seneschal of another group. It was also held at Mapleknoll in Bowdoin Park. Thora was the autocrat and head cook. This was the shire’s first Royal Progress event in eight years; Randal I and Marieke I attended. Several shire members received awards. It was to be 17 years before the Crown visited Frosted Hills again.
