In fall of 1984 there was a small event at Cushing House on the Vassar campus; 35 people attended. During the day there was a strong demo component to the event as we fought with rattan and boffers on the lawn in front of Cushing. Thora was the autocrat and head cook.
In fall of 1985 we had an event at the Castle Racquet and Fitness Club on Route 376. It was partly a demo, and we camped out on the grounds. The feast was in the bar. Thora was the autocrat and head cook. About 40 SCA members attended along with 50 demo visitors.
The Wenches’ Ball, fourth quarter 1988
Barrow Faire, a camping event, was held at Wilcox Park in Milan on 13-15 July 1990. Amalthea was the autocrat.
Viking Raids (jointly with the Shire of Nordenhalle) was held 25 March 1995 (A.S. XXIX) at the Tivoli Masonic Lodge; 105 people attended. Haraldr Bassi and Lady Robin McLaren from Nordenhalle were the joint autocrats. Oksana Goncharova was the head cook for a three-course feast. The event included tourneys in archery, holmgangr, and tafl, plus the “Viking Raid” game. The Viking Raid game involved looting the highest-scoring items from a room salted with various types of stealables (textiles, gold, weaponry, furs, books, jewelry, etc.). It turned out to be a very popular game. There was also a rebus game with a Viking theme. This event marked the return of SCA combat to Frosted Hills events for the first time in many years.
Frosted Hills and the Shire of Nordenhalle jointly hosted Spring Crown Tournament on 3 May 1997 in Ulster County. The winners that day were subsequently crowned Lucan III and Elspeth I at Fall Coronation. Oksana Goncharova did the dayboard for that event.
